What makes this the most famous hairbrush in South Korea?

This set from the brand EYECANDY features the Rainbow Volume S Brush plus a compact version. As a set, it retails for P2,343.70 but you can get it here at 40% off! I have the Large size as well as the compact, but there is also a medium-sized brush available in place of the large one. You can see the size differences below:

The brushes feature patented S-shaped bristles specially designed to allow for space between hair, airing strands out to maintain volume, as well as to reduce friction which causes damage and unruliness to hair.

EYECANDY recommends it for dull, limp, or flat hair; hair that is difficult to de-tangle; and hair damaged by sunlight and humidity.

Does it really work?

To set the bar, I have long (not super long nor waist-length, though), mostly straight, and DIY-colored hair. My mane is not incredibly dry nor amazingly smooth; I have good hair days and bad hair days, but mostly due to unruly bangs due to a bad trim.

Besides my moody bangs, the most I am bothered about with my hair are flyaways at the end, which the brush does not claim to solve.

Its main claims are preserving volume and smoothing hair through decreased friction. Mind you, I am far from a haircare enthusiast and only recently became mindful of the ingredients I use in my shampoo, conditioner, and hair mask. I also rarely use any hair serums, oils, or leave-on treatments. As to my hair tools, I have hairbrushes from Daiso and Watsons. That's it.

Volumizing

In the first place, my hair does not suffer from lack of volume. I have naturally thick hair and recently used up a strengthening shampoo from the brand Black Beauty, and even when my hair looks more "tamed" (usually when I haven't shampooed in over 24 hours to let natural oils moisturize my strands), it does not look dull or limp.

However, I sometimes go for almost three entire days of not washing my hair (which I do at night), usually when it's cooler, and it's at that point that my hair starts to get weighed down, especially near the roots. Since I started using these brushes, my hair still gets and feels oily but my strands maintain that thick, bouncy look to them. I think that the bristles definitely help in spreading the natural oils from my scalp to the rest of my hair, thus more evenly distributing the moisture and alleviating that heavy feeling near my roots!

Smoothing

Like I said earlier, my hair is neither super dry nor super smooth. I did however have problems with manageability, since the dryness that my hair does have tends to make it hard to smoothen and comb out knots in my hair - especially when it gets messed up by the wind!

So this is maybe the aspect that made me really appreciate these brushes! The S-shaped bristles really do help in detangling and smoothing hair without adding any friction, which in the long run really saves times, and less brushing time means less stress on my hair! In more than one month of using this after getting a half-inch trim, I can also honestly say that this prevents split ends! Maybe it's the lessened friction and stress on hair, and maybe it's how it helps in distributing more evenly the natural moisture coming from my scalp down to my hair strands and ends.

My overall rating for this product is 4 out of 5 stars or thumbs-up - why? In consideration of all I have done to care more for my hair in the past two months, I also take into light my switch to silicone-free and sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners! Relating this "magic hair brush" experience to my deeper knowledge of makeup/skincare, I would say that this is as important to haircare as good makeup brushes/sponges are to makeup application! Definitely important, but I would not classify it as an essential more than I would emphasize paying attention to the ingredients of our shampoos and conditioners as well as allowing your hair to moisturize itself with its natural oils (by avoiding over-washing of hair).
